Edmonton Central District

Edmonton Central District is the bustling heart of the city. It contains the Downtown neighbourhood, which is the central business and cultural core. Modern skyscrapers characterize the Downtown skyline. Just west of Downtown is Oliver, primarily a residential neighbourhood offering a mix of apartments, condominiums, and some single-family homes. Oliver has unparalleled views of the river valley and the University of Alberta to the south. Glenora, further west, is known for its tree-lined streets and historic architecture. Edmonton Central District neighbourhoods offer an urban lifestyle that seamlessly combine work and play.

Central District Boundaries

The Central District is depicted in blue in the clickable map above along with the neighbourhoods that comprise it. The Central District is located in the central area of the city and is one of fifteen districts in Edmonton’s District Network as outlined in The City Plan. Adjacent districts include the Northwest, 118 Avenue and Jasper Place Districts. Across the North Saskatchewan river to the south is the Scona District.

The City Plan(page 34) defines districts as “diverse, accessible collections of neighbourhoods that contain most of the services and amenities Edmontonians need to meet their daily needs. They connect residential and non-residential opportunities and enhance the ability for more Edmontonians to live locally.”
